Strongly condemning the brutal police lathi-charge against students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College in Chennai, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin slammed the AIADMK government for employing violent state repression instead of redressing legitimate grievances. The students had gathered to protest peacefully against the state government's unilateral decision to bifurcate and relocate their century-old institution away from the Madras High Court premises. Stalin expressed shock that police forces were unleashed upon unarmed students, resulting in severe physical injuries and hospitalizations, which he described as an assault on basic democratic rights. He pointed out that students had every constitutional right to express apprehensions regarding campus relocation, which threatened the historic character of their institution and created immense logistical hardships. Stalin condemned the ruling administration for treating student dissent as a law and order crisis, arguing that an empathetic administration would have initiated constructive dialogue. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from college premises, dropping of all fabricated charges against student leaders, and an independent inquiry to hold culpable police officers strictly accountable for unleashing unwarranted violence against youthful citizens.
