Udangudi power project is an example of this govt's corruption and misrule. Real reason for delaying the project needs to be investigated.
Calling for an independent investigation into the deliberate delays and abrupt tender cancellations plaguing the 1320-megawatt Udangudi Supercritical Thermal Power Project in Thoothukudi, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin slammed the AIADMK regime for systemic corruption. Stalin recalled that the crucial power generation project was initiated and expedited during the previous DMK government led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi to address Tamil Nadu's burgeoning industrial and domestic energy demands. However, under the AIADMK administration, the landmark project had been deliberately stalled through bureaucratic hurdles and contentious tender cancellations, allegedly to facilitate lucrative private power purchase contracts. Stalin pointed out that while rural and urban communities suffered from chronic load-shedding and industries were forced to cut production, the state government squandered public funds buying expensive private electricity at exorbitant rates. He argued that the stagnation of the Udangudi project was not merely an administrative failure but a calculated act of corruption that crippled the state's power infrastructure. Stalin demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into the tender manipulations, urging the government to restart construction without delay to restore affordable, reliable energy security across Tamil Nadu.
