It is a politician's duty to maintain decorum when speaking in parliament. It is shameful when they indulge in derogatory remarks about women
Sharply condemning derogatory and objectifying remarks made about women during parliamentary proceedings, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin asserted that elected representatives bear an absolute constitutional responsibility to maintain decorum and respect gender dignity. Stalin emphasized that parliament represents the highest temple of democracy, where lawmakers are expected to debate pressing national challenges, legislate progressive social policies, and champion the rights of marginalized citizens. When senior political figures indulge in vulgar comments about women's physical appearances, it deeply shames the institution of parliament and undermines decades of struggle for gender equality. The Dravidian movement, inspired by the emancipatory teachings of Thanthai Periyar and Perarignar Anna, has historically championed women's rights, self-respect, property inheritance entitlements, and social dignity. Stalin pointed out that casual sexism among political leaders reflects deep-seated patriarchal prejudices that normalize everyday violence and discrimination against women across society. He urged presiding officers of both houses of Parliament to take stringent punitive action against repeat offenders, establishing uncompromising standards of conduct. Stalin called upon leaders across all political parties to self-introspect, eliminate chauvinistic mindsets, and actively foster an inclusive, respectful political culture throughout the nation.
