Today, DMK staged a walk out of the assembly in protest against refusal to debate on electricity situation and the CM's disgraceful conduct.

Editorial context

Staging a resolute walkout from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, DMK Treasurer and legislative party leader M. K. Stalin led opposition MLAs in protest against the Speaker's refusal to permit an urgent discussion on the state's crippling electricity crisis and the chief minister's conduct. Stalin asserted that daily power outages lasting several hours across districts were devastating small-scale industries, throwing agricultural operations into crisis, and inflicting untold misery on domestic consumers during peak summer months. Despite repeated adjournment motions submitted by the DMK demanding a comprehensive debate on power generation deficits, fuel procurement mismanagement, and stalled thermal projects, the ruling AIADMK regime repeatedly shut down discussion. Stalin condemned the government for using arbitrary legislative rulings to gag the opposition, pointing out that parliamentary conventions require the treasury benches to address vital public crises transparently. He accused the administration of concealing actual generation shortfalls while squandering public funds on expensive emergency private power purchases. Stalin affirmed that walking out was the only democratic recourse left to register the DMK's absolute indignation against an unaccountable regime that systematically evades legislative scrutiny and public accountability.
