Demanding an immediate official explanation for the chronic delays in completing the landmark Vellore Combined Drinking Water Supply Project, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin warned that the DMK would launch massive prison-filling agitations if the project remained stalled. Stalin recalled that the comprehensive Cauvery-based water scheme was conceptualized, sanctioned, and funded under the previous DMK government led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi to permanently resolve the acute drinking water crisis in Vellore, Katpadi, and surrounding municipal areas. However, under four years of AIADMK rule, the vital water initiative had been subjected to deliberate political lethargy and bureaucratic sabotage, depriving millions of citizens of potable drinking water during sweltering summer months. Stalin highlighted that while public funds were squandered on publicity campaigns, basic pipeline laying and distribution networks remained incomplete due to governmental neglect. He warned the ruling establishment that the DMK would not remain a silent spectator while people suffered from severe water shortages. Stalin announced that if the government failed to expedite the remaining work and inaugurate the water supply immediately, DMK cadres and the public would stage statewide civil disobedience protests to hold the regime accountable.
