Voicing strong opposition to the unilateral extension of the annual marine fishing ban period from forty-five to sixty-one days, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin appealed to the AIADMK government to enhance financial assistance for traditional fishermen. Stalin pointed out that lengthening the ban without consulting coastal communities or providing adequate compensatory welfare would push lakhs of artisanal fishing families into severe economic distress and hunger. He emphasized that traditional fishermen already face immense operational hardships, including erratic weather, rising diesel expenses, and escalating maritime harassment in border waters. Stalin demanded that the state administration substantially increase the ban-period relief allowance, ensuring timely disbursement directly into fishermen's accounts before the cessation of fishing activities. He recalled that previous DMK regimes consistently prioritized coastal welfare by subsidizing fuel, establishing specialized welfare boards, and enhancing relief pensions during seasonal restrictions. Stalin called upon the state government to urgently intervene with the central administration to reconsider the arbitrary ban extension and allocate immediate supplementary funds to protect the livelihood security, social welfare, and dignity of Tamil Nadu's hardworking coastal fishing community during vulnerable seasonal intervals.
