ADMK govt is eroding the reputation of one of the strongest bureaucracies in India with its inaction and mismanagement

Editorial context

Expressing serious distress over the erosion of administrative excellence in Tamil Nadu, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin charged the AIADMK government with dismantling the reputation of one of India's most capable civil services. Stalin stated that Tamil Nadu's bureaucracy had historically earned nationwide respect for policy innovation, professional competence, and effective implementation of transformative social welfare initiatives. However, four years of political instability, arbitrary departmental postings, and vindictive transfers under the AIADMK regime had crippled administrative morale and paralyzed independent decision-making. He observed that competent civil servants were sidelined while sycophancy was rewarded, leaving key developmental departments headless or functioning without strategic direction. Stalin stressed that when political leadership abdicates responsibility and operates through intimidation, routine governance grinds to a halt and public delivery systems suffer catastrophic breakdown. He recalled how DMK administrations led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi empowered dedicated bureaucrats, fostered transparent administrative leadership, and achieved national benchmarks in governance efficiency. Stalin called upon the ruling administration to respect administrative institutions, restore bureaucratic professionalism, and allow civil servants to perform their constitutional duties without undue political interference and restore institutional dignity across the state.
