Is it democracy or a despotic dictatorship in Tamil Nadu? Ruling party members are behaving like hardcore criminals

Issuing a stinging rebuke of the deteriorating political culture and law and order situation in Tamil Nadu in late May 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin raised a profound constitutional question: does democracy or a despotic dictatorship prevail in the state? Stalin's condemnation came in the wake of escalating instances of physical violence, thuggery, and intimidation unleashed by elected AIADMK representatives against opposition members and common citizens. He pointed out that inside municipal corporation councils and local panchayat bodies, ruling party members routinely behaved like hardened criminals, using brute physical force to suppress debate, silence legitimate civic queries, and cover up municipal corruption. Stalin observed that the police machinery, instead of maintaining neutral law enforcement, functioned as passive spectators or active accomplices to ruling party lawlessness. He warned that when democratic institutions are subverted by gangsterism and intimidation, constitutional governance collapses entirely. Stalin asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu would not tolerate this reign of administrative terror, pledging that the DMK would fearlessly confront the regime's despotic excesses and restore democratic decency and lawful governance across the state and secure citizen welfare.
