Marking the 92nd birthday of venerated DMK President and five-time Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi on June 3, 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin unveiled a massive ecological initiative by launching the '92 Lakh Saplings Eco-Campaign' across Tamil Nadu. Conceived through the DMK Youth Wing, the ambitious environmental drive was designed to mobilize party functionaries, students, and civic volunteers in every village panchayat, municipality, and municipal corporation to plant native shade and fruit-bearing trees. Stalin explained that celebrating a political leader's milestone should transcend routine festivity and contribute directly to enduring public good and ecological welfare. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu was experiencing severe droughts, depleted water tables, and escalating temperatures due to unchecked loss of forest and urban green canopy. By planting ninety-two lakh trees, the campaign aimed to sequester carbon, revive local micro-climates, and raise widespread environmental awareness among the younger generation. Stalin commended youth wing cadres for their enthusiastic mobilization, affirming that the Dravidian movement has always combined social justice with visionary stewardship of natural resources and foster a sustainable green culture among citizens across all corners of Tamil Nadu.
