Taking hands-on leadership of a transformative statewide environmental conservation campaign in early June 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin planted the inaugural tree sapling in Chennai, formally kicking off an ambitious green drive to plant ninety-two lakh saplings across Tamil Nadu. Organized in commemoration of DMK President Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi's 92nd birthday, the mass plantation movement was spearheaded by the DMK Youth Wing in collaboration with local environmental NGOs, student clubs, and civic groups. Stalin highlighted that accelerating urbanization, deforestation, and climate-induced heatwaves posed an existential threat to Tamil Nadu's ecological balance and groundwater security. He called upon youth, party cadres, and ordinary citizens across all thirty-two districts to embrace tree planting as a personal civic responsibility. Stalin emphasized that the campaign was not a symbolic one-day photo opportunity, but a sustained mission to nurture native species like neem, banyan, and tamarind to maturity. He urged everyone to unite under the banner of 'Greener Tamil Nadu' to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and secure a healthy living environment for future generations and build an enduring ecological sanctuary across the entire state.
