Highway projects worth 7000 crores covering 1000 km in Tamil Nadu delayed because of ADMK government's apathy
DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin issued a scathing statement on June 24, 2015, holding the AIADMK government directly accountable for the crippling paralysis of major road infrastructure across Tamil Nadu. Stalin revealed that vital highway projects worth over 7,000 crore rupees, spanning more than 1,000 kilometers of national and state road corridors, had been stalled indefinitely due to the state administration's chronic apathy and bureaucratic inertia.
Stalin highlighted that key four-laning and expressway initiatives connecting crucial commercial hubs—such as Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, and Coimbatore—had ground to a standstill because the state government failed to execute timely land acquisitions, grant forest clearances, or shift utilities. As a direct consequence, major arterial roads were left half-dug and poorly illuminated, causing severe traffic bottlenecks, skyrocketing vehicular logistics costs, and a tragic surge in fatal road accidents that claimed hundreds of innocent lives.
Stalin emphasized that high-quality road connectivity is the fundamental prerequisite for industrial investments and balanced regional development. He urged the state government to immediately establish inter-departmental task forces to clear all bottlenecks and expedite stalled highway projects across Tamil Nadu without any further delay.
