Felt proud travelling on #ChennaiMetro today. I thank the engineers, workers & contractors for their hard work. Let's keep the Metro clean!
DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin took a proud, historic journey on the newly opened Chennai Metro Rail on July 1, 2015, traveling as a regular commuter alongside daily passengers between Koyambedu and Alandur. Commending the dedicated engineers, construction workers, and contract personnel whose tireless labor transformed the state capital's public transit landscape, Stalin called upon all citizens to treat the modern transit system with civic responsibility and keep the trains and stations impeccably clean.
Stalin recalled that the Chennai Metro Rail project was conceived, planned, and systematically executed under the visionary DMK government led by Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi, with financial approvals secured from the central government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As former Deputy Chief Minister and Mayor of Chennai, Stalin had personally overseen route alignments and foundation works. He expressed deep personal satisfaction at seeing this world-class public infrastructure finally serving the daily commuting needs of common citizens.
Stalin stressed that modern mass rapid transit is vital for reducing urban traffic congestion and vehicular emissions. He pledged that a future DMK government will expedite remaining metro phases to connect every corner of Chennai seamlessly.
