DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin voiced profound alarm and righteous indignation on July 10, 2015, over official statistics released by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which revealed that Tamil Nadu had gained the shameful distinction of ranking among the top five states in India for violent atrocities against Dalit communities. Stalin highlighted that since the AIADMK assumed power in 2011, an alarming 6,074 cases under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and 213 brutal murders of Dalits had been registered in the state.
Stalin pointed out that these shocking figures exposed the complete collapse of law and order and the utter failure of the state government to provide physical security and constitutional protections to oppressed social groups. Instead of enforcing stringent deterrent action against casteist violence and social discrimination, the state police apparatus routinely diluted charges, harassed victims, and delayed statutory compensation disbursements, fostering a culture of impunity for perpetrators.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian movement's foundational mission is social equality and the eradication of caste oppression. He demanded that the state administration establish special fast-track courts, enforce zero tolerance against caste-based violence, and protect marginalized communities firmly across Tamil Nadu.
