DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin reiterated a resolute, historic electoral pledge on July 21, 2015, affirming that the DMK is a party renowned for doing what it says and saying what it does. Declaring under the campaign hashtag #DMKwillBanTASMAC that social reform is paramount, Stalin promised that the very first administrative decree of an incoming DMK government in 2016 would be the progressive implementation of total liquor prohibition across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin highlighted the catastrophic destruction wrought upon Tamil society by the unrestricted expansion of state-run TASMAC liquor shops under the AIADMK government. Hundreds of thousands of working-class families had been pushed into absolute destitution, domestic violence had surged alarmingly, and thousands of young students and laborers were succumbing to chronic health ailments due to alcohol addiction. Stalin emphasized that generating state revenue through the systematic intoxication of citizens was morally reprehensible and socially destructive.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK was fully prepared to reorganize state finances and discover alternative revenue avenues to replace liquor receipts. He assured mothers and women across the state that their welfare and safety will remain the DMK's highest priority.
