I demand the immediate release of the arrested Pachaiyappa's college students and action against the policemen who led this inhumane assault
DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin issued a strongly worded statement on August 4, 2015, severely condemning the brutal police assault unleashed on college students inside and outside the historic Pachaiyappa's College campus in Chennai. Demanding the immediate, unconditional release of all detained students and the withdrawal of fabricated criminal cases, Stalin insisted on stern disciplinary and legal action against the police officials who orchestrated the inhumane violence.
Stalin pointed out that video footage and eyewitness accounts clearly showed police personnel chasing unarmed students, storming college classrooms and campus hostels, and mercilessly battering youths with lathis, resulting in severe fractures and head injuries. Stalin emphasized that while campus discipline must be maintained through educational authorities, unleashing paramilitary-style police brutality against young collegiate youths reflected an authoritarian mindset characteristic of the AIADMK administration.
Stalin stressed that collegiate campuses are democratic spaces of intellectual learning, not battlegrounds for retaliatory police savagery. He called upon the state government to immediately drop all non-bailable charges against the student agitators, ensure comprehensive medical treatment for the injured, and uphold basic student rights across Tamil Nadu in all educational institutions.
