Editorial context

DMK treasurer and Kolathur MLA M.K. Stalin took proactive administrative action on August 18, 2015, to address the severe drinking water crisis affecting residents in his legislative constituency. Meeting directly with the Managing Director of Chennai Metro Water, Stalin submitted detailed dossiers documenting acute water shortages, damaged distribution pipelines, and erratic tanker supplies across multiple residential divisions of Kolathur, demanding swift remedial interventions.

Stalin pointed out that despite repeated formal representations and public petitions submitted over several months, the AIADMK Mayor and the Chennai Municipal Corporation leadership had shown complete indifference to the daily struggles of local citizens. Working-class families and homemakers were forced to spend sleepless nights waiting for erratic municipal tankers or purchase private water at exorbitant rates. Stalin highlighted that the municipal administration's failure to maintain pumping stations and replace corroded pipes had exacerbated contamination and scarcity throughout northern Chennai.

Stalin warned the authorities that if Chennai Metro Water failed to restore regular piped potable water supplies to Kolathur immediately, the DMK would launch intense democratic agitations alongside local residents to compel the indifferent municipal administration to discharge its statutory civic duties.
