DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin addressed a massive women's conference organized in the historic temple city of Kancheepuram on August 22, 2015, declaring resolute commitment to implementing statewide total liquor prohibition. Welcomed by tens of thousands of women from across northern districts, Stalin asserted under the rallying cry of social liberation that the DMK will decisively enact total prohibition upon returning to governance in the 2016 Assembly elections.
The conference reverberated with poignant testimonials from mothers, wives, and young girls who described the catastrophic social decay caused by the ubiquitous presence of state-run TASMAC liquor shops located near residential colonies, temples, and schools. Participants highlighted how alcohol abuse had drained household finances, aggravated domestic abuse, and orphaned young families across working-class neighborhoods, turning government liquor outlets into engines of social destruction operated solely for commercial state revenue.
Stalin assured the assembled women that the DMK prioritized the welfare, safety, and dignity of mothers and daughters above all governmental revenues. He affirmed that shutting down TASMAC outlets and rehabilitating affected families will be the party's foremost policy commitment upon assuming power in 2016.
