DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin raised serious concerns on August 23, 2015, over the comprehensive breakdown of operations at the state dairy cooperative federations operating under the Aavin brand. Stalin pointed out that severe structural failures in milk procurement, disrupted supply chains, discrepancies in packaged quantities, and falling quality standards were severely distressing millions of daily urban consumers while cheating rural dairy farmers.
Stalin observed that rural milk producers were struggling because Aavin district unions delayed payments for procured milk and refused to accept daily yields during peak flush seasons, forcing farmers into distress sales to private dairies at unremunerative prices. Simultaneously, urban consumers across Chennai and other major cities faced chronic early-morning retail shortages, leaked milk packets, and packets containing less milk than the labeled volume. Stalin attributed these systemic failures to corrupt administrative practices and political interference within cooperative management under AIADMK rule.
Stalin urged the state administration to initiate immediate, transparent corrective actions to streamline procurement logistics, ensure rigorous laboratory quality testing, and guarantee fair procurement prices to rural dairy farmers across Tamil Nadu without any further delay.
