DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal on August 25, 2015, urging the Union government to immediately honor its solemn commitment to India's military veterans by implementing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) policy without further administrative delays or dilutions. Expressing resolute solidarity with protesting ex-servicemen under the hashtag #supportOROP, Stalin asserted that the nation owes an eternal debt of gratitude to the armed forces personnel who guard our borders.
Stalin expressed deep anguish that decorated veterans and elderly military pensioners were forced to sit on hunger strikes at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to demand a rightful entitlement that had been repeatedly promised during election campaigns. He pointed out that providing uniform pension payouts to retired personnel holding the same rank with identical lengths of service, regardless of their date of retirement, is a matter of fundamental equity and national honor that should never be subjected to bureaucratic hair-splitting.
Stalin recalled the DMK's historic tradition of championing armed forces welfare, noting that Tamil Nadu has contributed thousands of courageous soldiers to the Indian defense forces. He demanded that the central government implement OROP in its true spirit immediately.
