Marking a transformative watershed moment in modern Tamil Nadu political history on September 20, 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin formally inaugurated the statewide 'Namakku Naame' (We for Ourselves) mass contact yatra from Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent. Breaking sharply away from conventional political rallies characterized by barricaded stages and VIP motorcades, Stalin embarked on an unprecedented pedestrian and public transit journey to travel across every district and interact directly with citizens from all walks of life. Dressed informally and walking among the people, Stalin stated that the historic campaign was conceived not merely as an election outreach drive, but as an inclusive democratic listening tour. He invited farmers, weavers, small business entrepreneurs, students, teachers, unorganized workers, and self-help group women to share their honest criticisms, everyday hardships, and developmental aspirations. Stalin emphasized that the vision for a prosperous, modern, and equitable Tamil Nadu could not be authored in closed secretarial chambers; it had to emerge directly from the collective wisdom and lived experiences of the people. He called upon all citizens to unite in dismantling five years of AIADMK corruption and ushering in a progressive new era of transparent, participatory governance.
