Commencing his public engagements in Kanyakumari on the second day of his statewide Namakku Naame yatra in September 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin paid solemn homage to iconic historical figures who shaped the ethical and political fabric of Tamil Nadu and India. Overlooking the confluence of the three seas, Stalin looked with reverence at the monumental 133-foot stone statue of Ayyan Thiruvalluvar, installed by the DMK government under Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi to celebrate universal Tamil humanism and ethical philosophy. He also paid floral tributes at the memorials dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, veteran Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, and DMK founder Perarignar Anna, reaffirming the Dravidian movement's commitment to social democracy, secularism, and self-respect. Following the commemorative tributes, Stalin attended an inspiring gathering of over one thousand Women's Self-Help Group (SHG) members. The women shared moving testimonies of how the SHG movement, originally launched by Kalaignar in 1989, had transformed their social status and family finances, while expressing deep distress over the AIADMK's neglect of micro-credit programs. Stalin pledged that a future DMK government would revitalize the SHG movement, providing robust financial independence to women across Tamil Nadu.
