Delivering a comprehensive political assessment at the conclusion of his Kanyakumari tour in September 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin highlighted the profound anger and resentment felt by local residents toward the ruling AIADMK government. Stalin noted that during his extensive interactions across the coastal district, communities across all sectors voiced deep disillusionment with state misrule. Deep-sea fishermen expressed acute distress over the government's failure to provide adequate sales-tax-free diesel quotas, severely crippling their fishing expeditions amid skyrocketing fuel prices. Additionally, the long-demanded Colachel commercial transshipment port project, capable of transforming southern Tamil Nadu into a global maritime trade hub, remained entirely abandoned by the state administration. Simultaneously, tens of thousands of women belonging to self-help groups protested that micro-credit revolving loans and bank subsidies had been abruptly frozen, while small merchants and traders suffered under draconian, complicated commercial tax assessments and bureaucratic extortion. Stalin emphasized that the AIADMK regime's chronic inaction had deliberately suppressed Kanyakumari's immense economic potential. He promised that an incoming DMK administration would champion the Colachel port project, restore robust fishing subsidies, empower women's self-help groups, and introduce trader-friendly tax reforms to unlock inclusive regional prosperity.
