On the fifth day of his intensive Namakku Naame tour through western industrial corridors in October 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin delivered a blistering indictment of the AIADMK regime's economic policies in Tiruppur. Addressing textile exporters, garment manufacturers, and labour unions, Stalin lamented that the world-renowned 'Knitwear Capital of India' had been tragically transformed into a 'suicide capital' under five years of AIADMK governance. He highlighted how chronic electricity shortages, exorbitant power tariffs, lack of financial credit, and the government's total failure to support effluent treatment infrastructure had brought the bustling export cluster to a standstill. Small entrepreneurs and subcontracting unit owners, burdened by unpayable debts and cancelled export orders, were driven to utter desperation, with several tragic suicides reported across the industrial belt. Stalin pointed out that while global demand for textile apparel was expanding, Tiruppur's market share was being rapidly lost to competitors in Bangladesh and Vietnam due to state-level administrative paralysis. He promised that a future DMK government would implement an emergency revival package, provide uninterrupted industrial power, subsidize green effluent technologies, and restore Tiruppur to its rightful global prominence.
