Visiting the vibrant poultry production hub of Namakkal during his Namakku Naame campaign in mid-October 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin examined the acute challenges crippling the state's commercial egg industry. Meeting with poultry farm owners, feed manufacturers, and farm labourers, Stalin uncovered the devastating impact of state-level corruption on local agricultural producers. Poultry farmers explained that while Namakkal supplied millions of eggs daily for school noon-meal programs and national markets, corrupt syndicates and ruling AIADMK ministers rigged government procurement tenders, pocketing enormous commissions while paying farmers unremunerative, below-cost prices. Combined with steep hikes in maize and soya feed costs, frequent power outages, and the total absence of export support, dozens of poultry farms had been forced into bankruptcy. Stalin condemned the ruling regime for bleeding a world-renowned domestic industry through systemic extortion and corrupt middlemen. He pledged that a future DMK government would establish a transparent, digital direct-procurement system for the noon-meal scheme, eliminate corrupt intermediaries, provide subsidized cold storage facilities, and promote poultry exports to protect Namakkal's status as India's premier egg production capital and secure durable livelihood security for rural producers.
