Engaging with rural and semi-urban women during his Namakku Naame tour through western Tamil Nadu in late October 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin brought public attention to widespread grievances concerning the AIADMK's populist appliance distribution schemes. Numerous women shared firsthand experiences of receiving state-distributed 'Amma' mixer-grinders and table fans that broke down within four or five days of initial usage due to shoddy manufacturing quality and substandard electrical components. Stalin pointed out that thousands of crores of public taxpayers' funds were squandered on corrupt procurement deals that enriched ruling party intermediaries while delivering useless, hazardous electrical scrap to poor households. He observed that ordinary citizens were increasingly repulsed by cynical electoral handouts that failed to improve their material living standards. Women categorically conveyed to Stalin that they did not want defective free appliances; rather, they demanded dignified employment, stable household incomes, quality education for their children, and controlled essential commodity prices. Stalin emphasized that the DMK's governance vision focused on empowering people through structural economic growth, skills, and durable public assets rather than hollow, defective giveaways and sustainable household economic independence.
