Concluding an exhaustive multi-constituency tour of Villupuram district as part of his Namakku Naame grassroots outreach in October 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin summarized the pressing socio-economic challenges confronting local residents. Interacting with farmers, agricultural laborers, youth, and women across rural belts, Stalin identified agricultural collapse, crippling unemployment, and deficient public healthcare infrastructure as the three greatest concerns demanding urgent state intervention. He highlighted that despite being one of the largest agricultural districts in the state, Villupuram suffered from erratic irrigation, depleted water bodies, and unpaid crop compensation. The absence of industrial development and technical training hubs forced educated rural youth into severe underemployment or distress migration. Additionally, rural primary health centres and government hospitals suffered from acute shortages of doctors, life-saving medicines, and diagnostic equipment, leaving impoverished families vulnerable to catastrophic health expenditures. Stalin declared that Villupuram's developmental stagnation was a direct indictment of the AIADMK's governance failure. He promised that a future DMK administration would implement comprehensive irrigation revivals, establish agro-processing industrial clusters, and upgrade rural healthcare facilities to deliver equitable regional prosperity and establish durable economic security for every rural family.
