Adopting an innovative and people-centric campaign methodology during the third phase of his Namakku Naame tour in November 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin boarded a state-run transport bus in Vellore to interact directly with daily commuters. Sitting alongside workers, women vendors, students, and senior citizens, Stalin listened intently to their acute everyday struggles concerning public transit. Passengers voiced widespread anger over steep bus fare hikes imposed by the AIADMK administration, which placed an intolerable financial burden on daily wage earners and low-income families who depended entirely on state transport corporations for their mobility. Commuters also pointed out the deteriorated condition of bus fleets, erratic scheduling, severe overcrowding, and cancellation of services on rural routes. Stalin condemned the state government for mismanaging state transport undertakings into heavy financial debt while shifting the economic burden onto vulnerable passengers. He assured the travelling public that the DMK regarded accessible, affordable, and safe public transportation as an indispensable fundamental civic entitlement. Stalin promised that a future DMK administration would rationalize fare structures, modernize rural bus fleets, and restore professional, commuter-friendly management across all state transport corporations.
