With civic infrastructure paralyzed and official municipal helplines collapsing under the volume of distress calls during the December 2015 Chennai deluge, DMK took immediate operational steps to assist the public. Under the leadership of DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin, the party established dedicated emergency helpline telephone numbers at its headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, operating round the clock. Citizens stranded in waterlogged houses, requiring urgent boat evacuation, or desperately needing emergency food, drinking water, and medicines were encouraged to contact the central numbers or reach out to nearby district party offices. Stalin placed party functionaries on high alert, establishing rapid-response teams connected to the helplines to coordinate rescue requests directly with local volunteer units and boatmen. By transforming party infrastructure into an active humanitarian operations network, the DMK bridged critical gaps left by the administrative paralysis of state agencies. Stalin personally monitored helpline operations, ensuring that distress calls from isolated areas were systematically logged, tracked, and answered with on-ground aid, reaffirming the Dravidian movement's commitment to unconditional citizen welfare, compassionate public service, and practical community resilience during unprecedented natural disasters and widespread severe urban distress.
