During the height of the catastrophic December 2015 floods in Chennai, South Chennai witnessed catastrophic urban inundation due to the overflowing Adyar River and swollen Pallikaranai marshland basins. DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin visited and inspected the hardest-hit localities, conducting on-ground inspection and relief drives in Kotturpuram, Sholinganallur, Pallikaranai, Velachery, Saidapet, and Madipakkam. Low-income housing settlements along river embankments as well as sprawling residential apartment complexes stood marooned under several feet of water, leaving residents completely deprived of food, potable water, and medical care. Stalin joined party workers to distribute cooked meals, packaged drinking water, biscuits, and emergency medicines directly to affected citizens across these localities. He interacted with families stranded on rooftops, listening to their distress caused by delayed municipal rescue efforts and widespread communication blackouts. Stalin condemned the total lack of planned reservoir release protocols that worsened river surges, promising that DMK representatives would relentlessly advocate for flood survivors. He instructed local party units to maintain emergency relief camps and medical aid posts until stagnant floodwaters completely receded and healthy living conditions were fully restored across South Chennai.
