Following days of relentless torrential rains and overflowing river channels in December 2015, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin undertook an extensive assessment tour of the Cauvery delta districts. Travelling through flood-ravaged villages across Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam, he interacted directly with affected communities to inspect the damage caused to agriculture and rural livelihood. Submerged paddy fields stretched across tens of thousands of hectares, ruining standing crops on which farming families depended entirely. Along the coastal belts of Nagapattinam, artisanal fishing communities endured severe losses as fishing vessels, nets, and landing wharves sustained heavy damage from rough seas and water surges. Stalin met distressed farmers and fishermen, listening to their grievances regarding inadequate official relief and the delayed deployment of drainage equipment by state agencies. He demanded that the state administration immediately conduct transparent field enumerations to disburse fair compensation for crop loss and destroyed boats. Stalin assured the vulnerable rural workers that DMK cadre would remain on the ground to provide immediate rations and relief materials, while fighting tenaciously in public forums to protect the economic survival of delta families.
