During the catastrophic December 2015 floods in Tamil Nadu, severe inundation devastated urban and rural infrastructure across Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Cuddalore. Disruptions crippled electricity, telecommunications, public transit, and road networks, leaving thousands of residents marooned and cut off from basic amenities. In the midst of this humanitarian crisis, candidates preparing for the All India Civil Services examination faced immense distress, unable to access study centres, examination venues, or transport. Expressing grave concern over their plight, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin appealed to the Central government to intervene immediately. He urged Union authorities to take note of the unprecedented natural disaster and postpone the scheduled civil services examinations for aspirants from Tamil Nadu. Stalin emphasized that holding exams under such extreme conditions would severely prejudice local students and deny them an equitable opportunity to compete. His timely demand reflected the widespread distress of youth and student communities struggling to survive the calamity while trying to safeguard their academic and professional aspirations. The intervention amplified public pressure on central authorities to offer compassionate administrative accommodations for flood-affected candidates across the region.
