Highlighting the urgent constitutional necessity for collective legislative deliberation during a historic public crisis, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin demanded that the AIADMK government immediately convene a special session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Stalin emphasized that the catastrophic devastation inflicted by unprecedented monsoon floods across Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Cuddalore districts constituted an extraordinary humanitarian and infrastructural emergency that demanded transparent parliamentary debate and joint policy action.
Stalin pointed out that hundreds of citizens had lost their lives, lakhs of homes were submerged, public infrastructure worth tens of thousands of crores was obliterated, and vital agrarian tracts were buried under sand silt. He criticized Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for hiding behind unilateral executive press statements and refusing to face legislative scrutiny regarding the administration's catastrophic failure in flood management, delayed reservoir discharges, and botched rescue operations. Stalin stated that an emergency assembly session would provide an open forum for all political parties to review relief distribution, formulate a comprehensive rehabilitation master plan, and unanimously demand necessary disaster funds from the central government. He asserted that dodging legislative debate was a profound contempt of democratic governance.
