Demonstrating his lifelong passion for literature, rationalist thought, and intellectual enrichment, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin visited the annual Chennai Book Fair, spending hours exploring diverse publisher stalls and purchasing a wide collection of books encompassing history, political philosophy, Dravidian ideology, and contemporary science. Stalin commended the publishers, authors, and organizing associations for creating a vibrant cultural festival that brought together hundreds of thousands of avid readers, scholars, and young students from all walks of life.
Stalin emphasized that the culture of reading is the bedrock of social awakening, rationalist thinking, and progressive statecraft, recalling how the stalwarts of the Dravidian movement, particularly Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna, and Kalaignar Karunanidhi, used the written word to dismantle social oppression and build modern Tamil society. Observing the immense intellectual thirst among youth and school children, Stalin strongly advocated that grand, well-curated book fairs should not remain confined to Chennai, but must be organized annually in every single district headquarters across Tamil Nadu with full state government sponsorship. He pledged that an incoming DMK administration would provide substantial library grants, support independent regional publishers, and build modern public libraries to foster an enlightened, reading-oriented society statewide.
