Visiting Asia's largest perishable goods market complex at Koyambedu in Chennai during his Namakku Naame campaign, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin met with wholesale merchants, retail vegetable vendors, fruit traders, and representatives of the north Indian commercial community. Stalin listened to severe grievances regarding deteriorating civic infrastructure, acute water shortages, unmaintained sanitation blocks, and pervasive traffic congestion that crippled daily trade operations. Merchants described facing relentless harassment, extortion, and arbitrary inspection raids by municipal authorities, food safety officials, and ruling party intermediaries across wholesale market yards.

Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration for treating hardworking business communities as targets for rent-seeking while failing to maintain basic civic infrastructure in the iconic commercial hub. He highlighted that trade and commerce flourish only in an environment of administrative transparency, fairness, and mutual trust. Stalin assured the mercantile community that an incoming DMK government would establish single-window trade renewals, crack down decisively on bureaucratic extortion, safeguard legitimate trader rights, modernize Koyambedu's cold storage, solid waste management, and parking facilities, and ensure peaceful, safe operating conditions for all commercial communities without linguistic, regional, or political discrimination.
