Delivering a scathing condemnation of the moral degradation and shameless self-promotion characterizing the AIADMK regime, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin expressed outrage over the shocking degradation of government marriage welfare programs. Stalin pointed out that while the state government had virtually shut down the pioneering Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar marriage financial assistance scheme by withholding financial disbursements to thousands of eligible poor women, ruling party functionaries had organized staged mass weddings where photograph stickers of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa were pasted on the foreheads of newlyweds.
Stalin condemned this grotesque display as an unforgivable insult to the personal dignity, self-respect, and cultural sentiments of impoverished couples and their families. He emphasized that social welfare assistance is a fundamental democratic right funded by public taxpayer money, not personal charity to be exploited for crude political sycophancy. He recalled that the DMK under Kalaignar Karunanidhi had originally conceptualized marriage assistance to empower poor brides and encourage girls' higher education without degrading their self-esteem. Stalin pledged that an incoming DMK administration would immediately revive the marriage assistance scheme, disburse accumulated arrears, enhance gold allowances, and eradicate all forms of vulgar personality cult propaganda from state welfare administration.
