Recognizing the invaluable contributions of civil society organizations to public welfare and human dignity, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin hosted an extensive dialogue with representatives of non-governmental organizations and social service trusts in Velachery, Chennai, during his Namakku Naame campaign. Stalin warmly commended the exemplary volunteerism and humanitarian courage displayed by civil society groups during major crises, highlighting their selfless ground-level rescue and relief efforts during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the catastrophic December 2015 Chennai floods.
Stalin observed that when the state machinery under Chief Minister Jayalalithaa collapsed into paralysis, civil defense volunteers, youth clubs, and charitable organizations stepped forward to distribute food, coordinate medical relief, and rescue stranded families. He expressed deep distress that instead of collaborating with these dedicated groups, the AIADMK administration had harassed volunteers and delayed aid distribution through petty sticker-pasting politics. Stalin assured the NGO fraternity that an incoming DMK administration would foster a genuine institutional partnership with civil society organizations, establishing transparent regular consultation mechanisms and providing active state support for social welfare, disability rehabilitation, environmental conservation, and disaster resilience initiatives across Tamil Nadu.
