Welcoming a landmark regulatory decision safeguarding the democratic architecture of the digital era, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin commended the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for delivering a decisive ruling in favor of Net Neutrality. Stalin celebrated the ruling as a historic victory for millions of internet users, innovative digital startups, and the democratic fabric of India, asserting that access to the digital superhighway must remain equal, open, and non-discriminatory for every citizen without commercial bias.
Stalin emphasized that the internet represents the modern public square and an indispensable engine of educational empowerment, entrepreneurial innovation, and free speech. He had consistently opposed attempts by telecom monopolies and global internet giants to introduce discriminatory pricing, zero-rated data plans, or closed digital gardens that would divide the web into privileged and restricted tiers. By prohibiting differential pricing for data services, TRAI had protected small application developers, young software creators, and rural students who rely on open access to knowledge. Stalin declared that the digital public sphere must never be privatized or cartelized, reaffirming the DMK's progressive commitment to bridging the digital divide through universal, affordable, high-speed broadband connectivity across all rural and urban schools.
