Championing the neglected rights of the commercial logistics workforce, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin engaged in an extensive interactive session with long-haul truck drivers and transport operators during his Namakku Naame tour along national highway corridors. Stalin listened with deep concern to the harrowing accounts shared by drivers, who described enduring systemic extortion, arbitrary vehicle stoppages, and relentless demands for bribes from regional transport office (RTO) personnel and highway police check-posts at every district border.
Stalin condemned this institutionalized corruption, pointing out that hardworking freight drivers who transport essential food commodities, industrial raw materials, and manufactured goods across the nation were treated with contempt and subjected to constant humiliation. In response to their collective appeal, Stalin announced that an incoming DMK government would establish a dedicated Statutory Welfare Board for truck drivers, heavy vehicle crews, and auto-rickshaw operators. The board would guarantee comprehensive social security, including accidental insurance, healthcare coverage, children's educational scholarships, and old-age pensions. Stalin also pledged to eliminate archaic highway check-post harassment through digital permit verification, ensuring safety, dignity, and corruption-free mobility for the entire road transport community across Tamil Nadu.
