Extending staunch personal and political solidarity to distressed agricultural communities, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin visited the protest venue in western Tamil Nadu where farmers, youth, and civic activists were observing an indefinite hunger strike demanding the immediate execution of the Athikadavu-Avinashi groundwater recharge project. Stalin met with the fasting protesters, deeply moved by their physical exhaustion and unwavering determination to save their ancestral farmlands from total ecological ruin and acute groundwater depletion.
Stalin condemned the cold-heartedness of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who refused to depute a single cabinet minister to initiate dialogue with the fasting farmers or offer assurances regarding the vital irrigation project. He emphasized that the Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme was originally conceived during DMK governance to channel surplus flood discharges into parched rural water bodies across Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Erode districts, but was deliberately shelved by the AIADMK due to political malice. Appealing to the activists to withdraw their indefinite fast in view of their deteriorating health, Stalin assured them that the entire DMK organization stood solidly behind their legitimate struggle. He pledged that the very first cabinet meeting of an incoming DMK government would approve necessary funds to commence the project.
