Severely rebuking the callous indifference of the state leadership toward the water security of western Tamil Nadu, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin attacked Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for ignoring the vital Athikadavu-Avinashi groundwater recharge scheme. Stalin pointed out that while the Chief Minister habitually used Rule 110 of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to deliver hundreds of unilateral, self-congratulatory declarations on trivial matters, she had callously failed to make even a single statement of solace or policy commitment regarding the Athikadavu-Avinashi project.

Stalin highlighted that the long-pending irrigation initiative, designed to divert surplus floodwaters from the Bhavani river to replenish hundreds of parched irrigation tanks and open wells across Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Erode districts, was indispensable for rescuing regional agriculture from desertification. Despite intense peaceful agitations, relay fasts, and widespread appeals by local farming federations, the ruling AIADMK government showed absolute apathy, refusing to sanction necessary budgetary funds or clear administrative approvals. Stalin remarked that the Chief Minister was utterly detached from rural water realities. He assured the people of the Kongu belt that the DMK recognized the critical urgency of the scheme and would execute it without delay upon assuming power.
