Delivering an impassioned address at the massive Farmers Debt Relief Conference in the agricultural heartland of Erode, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin voiced staunch solidarity with thousands of debt-burdened cultivators from across western and central Tamil Nadu. Stalin drew sharp attention to the acute crisis gripping farming families, who were crushed under mounting liabilities due to erratic monsoons, severe drying of Cauvery and Bhavani river systems, and total lack of crop damage compensation from the indifferent AIADMK government.
Stalin recalled the historic leadership of DMK president Kalaignar Karunanidhi, who in 2006 signed the historic executive order waiving cooperative farm loans amounting to seven thousand crore rupees immediately upon assuming office. In contrast, he condemned Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for remaining completely unmoved by rural bankruptcies and deploying recovery agents to publicly humiliate defaulting farmers. Stalin gave his solemn personal word to the assembled gathering that an incoming DMK administration would unconditionally waive all agricultural loans taken by small, marginal, and medium farmers from cooperative credit societies and banks. He affirmed that the DMK considers agricultural debt relief an essential investment in food security, promising comprehensive structural assistance to rebuild farm livelihoods.
