Delivering a sharp condemnation of the total legislative failure of AIADMK parliamentarians, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin criticized the ruling party for failing to secure essential rail infrastructure for Tamil Nadu in the Railway Budget 2016 presented by Suresh Prabhu. Stalin emphasized that despite having an overwhelming contingent of thirty-seven members in the Lok Sabha, making it the third-largest party in the lower house of Parliament, the AIADMK demonstrated absolute political impotence and lack of initiative for the second consecutive fiscal year.

Stalin pointed out that long-pending priority projects, including doubling and electrification of the Villupuram-Dindigul line, speedier execution of the Madurai-Bodinayakkanur gauge conversion, expansion of suburban railway corridors around Chennai, and survey work for new regional rail links connecting agrarian towns, were completely sidelined without budgetary allocations. He observed that AIADMK MPs had neither the courage to question the central government nor the competence to negotiate regional demands during budget consultations. Stalin asserted that a state's economic competitiveness relies heavily on modern logistics, promising that an incoming DMK government and its parliamentary representatives would aggressively pursue comprehensive railway modernization and secure Tamil Nadu's legitimate infrastructural share.
