Analyzing the macroeconomic implications of the Union Budget for fiscal year 2016-17, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin observed that while the central government had incorporated several welcome pronouncements regarding rural infrastructure and agricultural credit, the budgetary framework fell far short of meeting the urgent expectations of all socio-economic sections. Speaking to financial analysts and reporters, Stalin highlighted that the national budget failed to provide concrete fiscal relief to mitigate the crushing burden of inflation that weighed heavily on salaried middle-class households and low-income daily-wage earners.
Stalin pointed out that key sectors requiring massive capital stimulus, such as traditional textile manufacturing, engineering exports, and small and medium industrial enterprises, were largely bypassed without substantial incentives or interest subsidies. He expressed deep disappointment over the complete omission of dedicated central assistance packages for Tamil Nadu, which was still reeling from the massive infrastructural damage and economic losses inflicted by the December 2015 floods. Stalin affirmed that genuine fiscal planning must ensure equitable resource redistribution and stimulate employment generation across states, reiterating that the DMK would scrutinize the actual ground-level delivery of central allocations to ensure Tamil Nadu received its rightful share.
