Offering a balanced and astute political assessment of the Union Budget 2016 presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin echoed party president Kalaignar Karunanidhi's perceptive evaluation of the central government's fiscal proposals. Stalin observed that while the national budget appeared to have cleared initial parliamentary scrutiny and passed on paper by addressing rural and agricultural distress in its introductory rhetoric, its true efficacy could only be judged during practical implementation across states.
Stalin pointed out that past experiences with central budgets demonstrated that grand financial allocations and ambitious developmental declarations often remained confined to paper without trickling down to benefit impoverished farmers, rural laborers, or small businesses on the ground. He drew attention to the conspicuous absence of dedicated fiscal relief packages for Tamil Nadu's flood-devastated districts, lack of substantial industrial concessions for south India, and the burdensome imposition of new service cesses that elevated the daily cost of living for middle-class families. Stalin asserted that a budget deserves full marks only when it delivers measurable improvements in purchasing power, infrastructure modernization, and job creation, stating that the DMK would vigilantly monitor the actual implementation of these proposals.
