Expressing deep anguish and moral outrage over an avoidable agrarian tragedy, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin condemned the callousness of financial recovery agencies and the total apathy of the AIADMK administration following the suicide of a farmer in Ariyalur district. The deceased agriculturist, Azhagar, ended his life after being publicly humiliated, harassed, and physically intimidated by private recovery agents who forcibly seized his agricultural tractor due to minor loan installment defaults caused by consecutive crop failures.
Stalin pointed out that while large corporate loan defaulters enjoying political patronage were granted generous write-offs and restructuring packages, poor food growers who feed the nation were subjected to ruthless harassment, social shaming, and police high-handedness. He held the state government directly responsible for Azhagar's untimely demise, criticizing the lack of regulatory oversight over coercive recovery mechanisms deployed by non-banking financial companies and banks. Stalin demanded stringent criminal proceedings against the recovery agents and immediate compassionate financial compensation for the victim's bereaved family. He affirmed that an incoming DMK government would protect vulnerable farmers from predatory debt practices, prohibit coercive asset seizures, and ensure comprehensive institutional credit safeguards for all agricultural households.
