Highlighting critical concerns regarding election integrity and public security during the 2016 assembly polls, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin submitted a forceful appeal to the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that while election flying squads and static surveillance teams must remain vigilant, their operational enforcement had created widespread panic among honest small traders, merchants, and daily-wage vendors. Legitimate commercial transactions and routine cash transport for shopkeeping were being disrupted through arbitrary seizures, inflicting acute hardship on local commerce.
At the same time, Stalin demanded that the Election Commission focus its actual surveillance machinery on tracking and intercepting illicit cash transfers orchestrated by the ruling AIADMK party machinery. He noted that ruling party functionaries were brazenly using private vehicles, official convoys, and hidden networks to transport unaccounted money intended for bribing voters across sensitive constituencies. Stalin urged election authorities to strike a clear, balanced distinction between innocent citizens conducting lawful trade and corrupt political syndicates attempting to subvert democratic norms. He called for strict accountability among enforcement personnel to ensure truly free, fair, and transparent elections across Tamil Nadu.
