Expressing grave concern over the unbearable inflationary distress confronting working-class families across Tamil Nadu, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin demanded an immediate and complete rollback of central petrol and diesel price hikes. Stalin pointed out that escalating fuel prices hit poor households and the salaried middle class hardest, directly driving up daily commuting costs, freight charges, and the market retail prices of essential food commodities, vegetables, and milk. He criticized the central government for systematically squeezing ordinary citizens while international crude oil prices remained relatively subdued.
Stalin drew attention to the cascading damage inflicted on the state's transport operators, auto-rickshaw drivers, small logistics enterprises, and farmers who relied on diesel for agricultural pumpsets and tractors. He also criticized the state AIADMK administration for maintaining steep local sales taxes on petroleum products instead of providing meaningful tax relief to cushion citizens from price shocks. Stalin asserted that both central and state governments were treating fuel taxation as a mechanism for revenue extraction while ignoring public economic agony. He urged the authorities to reduce fuel duties immediately and curb inflation, reaffirming the DMK's commitment to defending the economic wellbeing of ordinary families.
