Conducting an intensive election campaign through the heritage town of Kancheepuram, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin witnessed firsthand the severe civic breakdown and infrastructural neglect plaguing the temple city. Meeting with local residents, weavers, and small traders, Stalin expressed profound dismay at the pervasive drinking water scarcity that forced families to spend exorbitant sums on private water tankers. He criticized the AIADMK municipal administration for allowing historic water bodies, temple tanks, and supply channels to dry up due to years of complete abandonment and non-existent maintenance.
Stalin also drew sharp attention to the chronic, unannounced power outages that crippled Kancheepuram's celebrated weaving industries and small manufacturing units. Power cuts lasting several hours daily disrupted production schedules, slashed artisan daily wages, and damaged delicate machinery. He condemned Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's hollow claims of Tamil Nadu being a power-surplus state, exposing how ordinary households and small industries bore the brunt of rolling blackouts. Stalin pledged that a DMK government would prioritize drinking water schemes, rejuvenate water bodies, ensure round-the-clock uninterrupted three-phase industrial power, and restore Kancheepuram as a flourishing, world-class center of heritage, trade, and traditional handloom craftsmanship.
