Voicing serious concerns over the impartiality of the democratic process, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin lodged a sharp protest against the Election Commission of India for maintaining tacit silence over brazen administrative bias in Tamil Nadu. Addressing the media, Stalin pointed out that weeks after the formal notification of the 2016 assembly polls, the commission had failed to transfer partisan police officers and administrative officials who were openly functioning as political agents of the ruling AIADMK. This calculated inaction severely undermined the level playing field essential for conducting free, fair, and transparent democratic elections.
Stalin highlighted specific instances where senior police personnel previously accused of electoral malpractices were deliberately retained in sensitive field postings across key constituencies. He stated that illicit cash distribution, intimidation of opposition cadres, and suppression of democratic campaigning were occurring under the watchful eyes of compromised officials. He demanded that the Election Commission immediately replace tainted police superintendents and revenue officers with neutral officials from outside the respective districts. Stalin cautioned authorities that the DMK cadre and the vigilant public would mount continuous legal and grassroots resistance against any attempt to subvert the democratic mandate of the people.
