Targeting the systematic economic deceleration under AIADMK tenure, M.K. Stalin called attention to how vital development initiatives were deliberately stalled for narrow political motivations. Chief among these was the historic Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project, envisioned originally by Perarignar Anna and diligently advanced by the DMK through the central government. The ambitious maritime channel was designed to transform southern coastal districts into thriving global trade corridors, drastically cut shipping transit times around peninsular India, and stimulate massive industrial employment across Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, and Nagapattinam.
Stalin criticized the state leadership for mounting persistent legal and political roadblocks against this transformative endeavor, directly hurting regional economic progress. He noted that due to policy paralysis, bureaucratic apathy, and persistent neglect of industrial infrastructure, Tamil Nadu slipped steeply from its customary leading position in industrial growth to twentieth place nationally. Such decline harmed youth employment prospects and discouraged foreign investments. Stalin pledged that a progressive DMK administration would vigorously pursue foundational infrastructure projects, revive stalled maritime initiatives, eliminate bureaucratic hurdles, and rebuild investor confidence to restore Tamil Nadu to its rightful standing as India’s top performing industrial state.
